HP is capitalizing on its membership of the OpenStack community to competet wtih Amazon Web Services. HP has launched a private beta of cloud compute and Cloud Object Storage, based on the OpenStack framework. When the services emerge from beta, they will be in direct competitiion with Amazon Web Services (AWS). HP cloud compute is equivalent to Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) and offers the ability for customers to deploy or scale compute infrastucture instances on demand.
A new survey from Cisco's consulting group has some suprising conclusions. They looked at 1000 businesses users this past spring to understand the interaction between their mobile devices and how they interact with various cloud-based services. Here's one of the five conclusions from thier survey.
"Business users will demand a unified cloud experience to access both kinds of content from their devices. This makes sense. Cisco predicts that businesses smartphone growth will drive more mobile cloud app apoption."
OpenStack continues to grow, but over the past week, product updates and acquisitions from Citrix, Eucalyptus, Red Hat and VMware signify that the competition to become the dominant private cloud provider and win over the enterprise also intensifies. Each of these solutions has features that meet a customer’s needs.
