What Do You Want From a CloudStack Preso?

Posted by on in Cloud News

This weekend, I’m heading to Los Angeles for The Eleventh Annual Southern California Linux Expo and then to Portland, Ore. for ApacheCon NA 2013. Why? Well, other than the fact they’re fantastic events, I’m going to spread the word about Apache CloudStack, and have time to meet with other folks who work on CloudStack.

Part of that is giving presentations. I’m speaking on Sunday, February 24th at SCALE, and on Tuesday, February 26th at ApacheCon.

The talks are at an introductory level – not an “I don’t know what cloud is” level, but an “I’ve never deployed an IaaS before” level. (Or perhaps a “I deployed an IaaS and it wasn’t what I hoped it would be, what’s different about CloudStack?” level.)

My question is: What do you want to know about CloudStack? I’d like to make sure the presentations are hitting the points that people care about, and not spending time on things they don’t care about.

Things that are covered now:

Defining the Open Cloud

Posted by on in Open Source

Last week at CloudOpen we had a short panel discussion about what makes an “open cloud.” Surprisingly, some folks don’t think that having the source code to the cloud service is a requirement.

The panel, led by Red Hat’s John Mark Walker, included Sam Ramji (Apigee), Greg DeKoenigsberg (Eucalyptus Systems), Stefano Maffulli (OpenStack) and I sat in on behalf of Apache CloudStack. It was a fun panel, lively, and short. With just 30 minutes for the discussion, we didn’t have time to do a deep dive into the topic.

It's OSCON time once again - and there's lots of CloudStack and related activities going on next week at OSCON you don't want to miss out on.

On Tuesday, we have two tutorials of interest. In the morning, Lars Kurth is going to be doing a Xen tutorial from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you're using Xen with CloudStack, or thinking about it, you'll probably want to catch that.

Tuesday afternoon, we have a CloudStack tutorial from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both tutorials are in E141 in the Oregon Convention Center.

We're also participating in Apache's mini-BarCamp from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in room E142 (so, just next door to the tutorials).

The OSCON folks are also opening the Exhibit Hall from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and we'll have the CloudStack booth up and running - so come by and say hello! We'll be doing demos, answering questions, and handing out swag. The hall is open Wednesday and Thursday as well during the day, and during the "booth crawl" on Wednesday evening.
